HAYS — Fort Hays State University will hold a special re-dedication ceremony to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the original dedication of the Memorial Union on Friday, Nov. 10, at 10 a.m. in the Memorial Union’s Sunset Atrium.
Fort Hays State University’s Memorial Union was built in 1958. A dedication service was held in October of that year, where the building was named in honor of former students who lost their lives while serving their country.
A plaque bearing the names of those brave Americans was installed to commemorate the event. Twenty-five years later, the memorial was updated to include former students who lost their lives in conflicts up to – and including – the Vietnam War.
This rededication ceremony will include the addition of two former students lost in combat operations in Afghanistan, Army Chief Warrant Officer David R. Carter and Army Chief Warrant Officer Bryan J. Nichols. Their names will be added to the esteemed list of courageous individuals who preceded them.
This event will also include the unveiling of a new digital memorial display.
