LAKE WILSON – The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wants park goers and the public to know that a military exercise will be partly taking place at Wilson Lake through June 28.
The Kansas Air National Guard’s 184th Wing will conduct a military training exercise and will set up military equipment, tents and long-range communication systems on land near the Scenic Overlook or north Lucas Park. The purpose of the exercise is to test the operational readiness of the airmen and equipment assigned to the unit.
Visitors at Wilson Lake can expect to see military vehicles, personnel and equipment. Visitors may experience road closures and some areas will be inaccessible to unauthorized personnel.
Military personnel and equipment will not be staged on public campsites. No live ammunition or explosives will be involved, although some blank ammunition may be used.
Campers may hear sirens, wavering tones and verbal communication through loudspeakers. The military camp will not be open to the public or on display for visitors during the exercise.
