Mpire Realty was chosen to market Great Bend USD 428’s former Central Kitchen, located at 2201 Broadway Ave.
The district received two Requests For Proposals (RFPs) after it announced it would use a commercial real estate agent to market the surplus building, Assistant Superintendent John Popp told the school board Wednesday when it met at Park Elementary School. Mpire was recommended because it offered to sell the building at a 4% commission. The other RFP came from Keller Real Estate, which offered its services with a 4.95% commission.
Popp said they both had a good plan for how they would market the property.
When the district is ready to sell its other surplus property, the old Bus Barn/Maintenance Building at 2019 12th St., Superintendent Khris Thexton said the district would first try asking for sealed bids. That worked for selling the former District Education Center but no bids were received for the Central Kitchen. The 12th St. property was recently appraised at $130,000. Thexton said there has been a lot of interest in that property.
At present, the old Maintenance Building is storing surplus items that the district plans to price and sell. The building will be open from 3:30-5 p.m. on Oct. 3 to district employees, who will have the first opportunity to buy items. Then the sale will open to the public on Oct. 4.
