National Poppy Day
poppyDay2023

Juanita Dreiling shares handmade crepe paper poppies and collects donations for the American Legion. Members of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 180 and the American Legion Post 180 family celebrated American Legion National Poppy Day on Friday, May 26, by offering the poppies at seven locations in Great Bend. They were also out on Saturday. Red poppies are worn to honor the fallen. The poppy also honors hospitalized and disabled veterans who hand craft many of the red, crepe paper flowers. Making the poppies provides a financial and therapeutic benefit to the veterans, as well as a benefit to thousands of other veterans and their families through the donations collected.

Juanita was outside the Dillons store on Main Street with his husband Ken Dreiling on Saturday. When they weren’t handing out poppies, they returned shopping carts to the store.
