New board members elected in contested races

Carl Helm was elected to the Barton Community College Board of Trustees Tuesday, garnering the most votes, 1873. Incumbents John E. Moshier and Don Learned were reelected, with 1,596 and 1,563 votes, respectively.

If these unofficial results stand when the votes are canvassed on Monday, incumbent Tricia Reiser will be leaving the board. She received 1,521 votes and candidate Sonya Rein received 1,442.

Only three positions were available.

In a three-way race for two positions on the Extension Board, Cottonwood District, the winners were Lori Waters with 1,925 votes and Alexa (Lexi) Straub with 1,841. Also running was Rita Stolz, who received 1,317 votes.

The Great Bend USD 428 Board of Education had three positions open and four candidates. Incumbents Deanna Essmiller and Jacqueline M. Disque were reelected with 1,612 votes and 1,326 votes, respectively, while first-time candidate Chad Burroughs received 1,142 votes, placing him ahead of incumbent Donald L. Williams, who received 1,114 votes.
