New coach to be introduced at USD 428 board meeting

Coach Tim Brooks will be introduced during the Great Bend USD 428 Board of Education meeting, set for 5 p.m. Monday, May 9 at the District Education Center, 201 South Patton Road.
His contract will require board approval later in the meeting. He will be named assistant activities director/strength-conditioning and head boys basketball coach at Great Bend High School.
The board will also recognize GBHS junior Aaron Miller, who has qualified for competition at the National Speech and Debate Tournament at Salt Lake City, Utah, June 12-17. Travel plans and related expenditures will be presented for board consideration.
Other items on the agenda: Student insurance; summer hours, closing the District Education Center officer on Friday afternoons May 27 through July 29; paper bids; assessment updates; math and English language arts curriculum; beginning of the 2016-2017 school year, including first day of classes on Aug. 17; activities and athletic photography; and personnel (including the appointment of Brooks). There will also be an executive session for discussion of personnel.
