Airplane crash occurs at Ellinwood airport

ELLINWOOD — At 1:52 p .m. on Wednesday, a small pleasure aircraft was attempting to take off from the Ellinwood airport, but didn’t have enough altitude and crashed.
The pilot, 58 year old Michael Yagel of Raymond, was attempting to take off in a 1946 Lulscombe 8A Fixed Wing single engine plane. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol Crash log, he tried to abort, lost direction control and flipped off the runway into a milo field.
Yagel and passenger 66-year-old  Leonard Maberry of Ellinwood, refused transport to the hospital.
The FAA was at the airport Thursday morning investigating the wreck.
