GBHSs comic play relates classic myths

Great Bend High School drama department’s production of the play “The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza” will start at 2 p.m. Sunday, and 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the school’s auditorium. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door.

The epic story of the Greek gods will play out at Great Bend High School. Well, sort of.
The GBHS theater department will present comedy “The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza” at 2 p.m. Sunday, and 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the school’s auditorium, 2027 Morton. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door
“Support the arts in our community and support our students,” said drama instructor Dan Heath. “Have a great time.”
 Written by Don Zolidas, the play  features two battling narrators attempting to cover the entirety of Greek mythology using audience participation, cross-dressing and general theatrical insanity, Heath said. It includes famous myths such as Pandora’s Box, Jason and the Argonauts (the original Super Friends), and Hercules.
Obscure, weird myths such as Linus and the legend of the Argus are also part of the plot. The play culminates in a bizarre, musical dance-influenced version of The Iliad complete with a full-scale battle of little green army men.
“This play is wild, silly, and a complete blast for audiences of all ages” Heath said. “ There are lots of laughs, a great cast, a fantastic set and a great time for everyone.”  
The production is directed by Heath and Holly Johnson. Technical direction is being provided by Andy Negaard and the stage manager is Paige VanSteenburgh.
