Central Plains 8th grade Family and Consumer Science class and the Kansas Association for Youth (KAY) members have been picking apples at Cain City Apple Orchard. Sharon Cooper, Family and Consumer Science teacher, said, The trips serve multiple purposes. Students are learning about apples and orchard operations from the orchard owners, Virginia and Allen McCartney. Students have the opportunity to purchase apples for their families and enjoy being out in the afternoon sunshine. The apple picking trips serve as a service project and promote healthy snacking. Taylor Oeser and Colton Potts find apples to pick.
