Although practice is at separate times during the week for the fifth graders of St. Joseph School and Ellinwood Grade School, band instructor Don Regehr put together an entertaining evening with Beginning Band Open House held in the high school band room recently. A smaller, quaint setting, the students seemed comfortable to play for their parents. Rolling Along, Hot Cross Buns, A Mozart Melody were some of the tunes performed by the 26 students. Soloists included Daniel Morales, Isaac Clymer, Hunter Smyth, Dylan White, Blaine Leon, Erica Gross and Kyler Doll. A twist at toward the end of the concert, a teaching experiment, was implemented by Regehr. He asked the students to pick an adult they wanted to instruct how to play their instrument. Then the chosen ones were to play a selected tune. A tune was carried to the surprise of the crowd and Regehr, as all cheered. Students ended the night with The Hard Rock Blues. - photo by TRACY K.
