Cattle drive cow camps now open to visitors

ELLINWOOD — Visitors are welcome to visit the cow camps during the 150th anniversary cattle drive from Caldwell to Ellsworth. Visitors are welcome each evening until 7 p.m.

The directions to the Ellinwood camps are:

•Thursday — Take SE 100 Ave. (Stafford Road) to the Stafford/Barton County Line. Continue four miles south (on Stafford Road) to NE 170 Street (Salem Station-white tank battery). Turn east, go 2.2 miles to Cow Camp (Watch for signs).

• Friday — Take SE 100 Ave. (Stafford Road) south to 50 Road. Turn east (First Baptist Church sign). Go two miles to SE 120 Ave. Turn north (left), go 1/2 mile. Camp is on the right. Watch for signs.

•Saturday — At the stop light at U.S. 56 Highway and Main Street in Ellinwood, go east five blocks to SE 110 Ave. at LK’s Liquor. Turn north. Go 1-1/2 miles to NE 10 Road. Turn east, go two miles to NE 130 Ave. Turn north, and go two miles to Cow Camp. Watch for signs..

•Sunday — at the stoplight at U.S. Highway 56 and Main Street in Ellinwood, go east five blocks to SE 110 Ave. at LK’s Liquor, turn north, go 5-1/2 miles to NE 50 Road by St. Peter and Paul’s Church. Turn east. Go east five miles to intersection of NE 160 Ave. and NE 50 Road. (Barton Co./Rice Co. Line) Continue east 1-1/2 miles East to Cow Camp on left side of road. Watch for signs.
