HOISINGTON —Clara Barton Hospital celebrated Operating Room Team week, November 11th through the 15th. Each year, the Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) emphasizes the importance of teamwork in the operating room. With this in mind, the theme “Real. Life. Heroes.” was selected and etched on the department’s wall.
“The theme highlights the daily work the OR team completes as they provide care to the patients at the hospital,” says Kim Tutak, Director of Surgery Services at Clara Barton Hospital. “It takes a collaborative team effort on the part of each OR health care worker to provide safe, competent, and quality care to our patients. We do our job day in and day out with pride and compassion.”
The Surgical Services department recognized another member of their team this past week:  the Clara Barton Hospital Foundation and its supporters. The Foundation, with monies raised at the 20th annual golf tournament, purchased two Stryker Prime Series Stretchers and specialized replacement mattresses for the department. The stretchers make transport of patients safer and more efficient and the integrated scales provide accurate weights, without moving the patient. The specialized mattresses allow the hospital to provide preventative skin care, through continuous weight, position, and pressure adjustment.
“Patients have commented on the improved comfort these stretchers have provided, and the staff appreciates the ease of patient transport with the new stretchers,” states Tutak.
