ELLINWOOD — There are new books at the Ellinwood School/Community Library. They are:
"The Postmistress" by Sarah Blake. In 1940, Iris is the postmistress in a small Massachusetts village. She knows absolutely everything about the townspeople. Although she feels it is her job to deliver personal secrets, one day, she does the unthinkable and slips a letter into her pocket, reads it, and doesn’t deliver it. Meanwhile, the war rages on, and Iris knows that the war will eventually come to touch her quiet little town.
"Gideon’s Sword" by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. When Gideon Crew was twenty-four, she was summoned to his dying mother’s bedside, and discovered that his father had been framed for treason, and murdered. With her last breath, she begged her son to avenge him. Gideon does just that, meticulously, with spectacular results. But from the shadows, someone very powerful is watching...someone who wants to use Gideon to his own ends.
"The Weird Sisters" by Eleanor Brown. Unlucky in work, love, and life, the Andreas sisters return to their childhood home. Each has a secret she’s unwilling to share, and each has come home to heal. What can the homebody and shy eldest sister, the fast-living and mysterious middle child, and the bohemian youngest sibling have in common?
"The Tiger’s Wife" by Tea Obreht. In a Balkan country mending from years of conflict, Natalia, a young doctor, arrives on a mission of mercy at an orphanage by the sea. As she and her friend begin serving there, secrets and superstitions gather around her, including secrets about a strange family digging for something in the vineyards. And then there are the legends of an immortal vagabond and of a fierce tiger ever coming nearing.
"Heartwood" by Belva Plain. Iris is a successful woman, with an academic career and happy marriage. But she is also the mother of three adult children, each with their own lives and burdens to bear. Iris often feels frustrated by the decisions her children have made. Will Iris weather the challenges of separations, reunions, and changes ahead, some of which may even rock her solid relationship with her beloved husband?
"The Wise Man’s Fear" by Patrick Rothfull. Kvothe is an unusual hero, and now an escalating rivalry with a powerful member of the nobility forces Kvothe to leave the University and seek his fortune abroad. Kvothe soon uncovers an assassination attempt, comes into conflict with a rival arcanist, and leads a group of mercenaries into the wild, in an attempt to solve the mystery of who is waylaying travelers on the King’s Road.
