ELLINWOOD — The Ellinwood High School Forensics Team earned a trophy for 1st place in team sweepstakes at the KC Maverick Invitational at Kiowa County High School in Greensburg on Sat., Feb. 16. Nineteen schools competed in the meet, and Ellinwood beat 2nd place Sterling by a margin of forty points.
EHS also won the Great Bend Invitational on Feb. 9.
Individually, EHS students claimed the top three spots in Original Oration, with Connor Birzer placing first, followed by teammates Hannah Maddy and Rachel Schloctermeier. Schloctermeier also won Informative Speaking.
Hannah Billinger placed 1st in Poetry Interpretation, and Stephanie Troyer placed 3rd in the same event. Billinger also placed 4th in Informative Speaking, and Troyer placed 2nd in Prose Interpretation.
Jenna Snell placed 3rd in Informative Speaking, and Birzer placed 3rd in Extemporaneous Speaking. Shiani Hughes placed 6th in Serious Solo Acting.
Tamika Arndt, Josiah Caspers, and Megan Orndoff contributed to the team’s 1st-place finish. The students are coached by Julie Ann Jacobs and Angela Petersen.
