ELLINWOOD —Ellinwood High School hosted a debate topic workshop on Aug. 10 for area coaches and students. The guest speaker was Tam Osgood, who presented information about the 2012-13 policy debate topic, transportation infrastructure. In the upcoming school year, high school students from all over the country will be engaging in interscholastic debates on the topic.
Osgood a debate coach and lecturer from Kansas City, Mo., started the Little Beast Debate Workshop series in 1990 with 10 students from one high school. In the past twenty-two years, it has grown to annually include over 500 students from schools across the states of Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma.
Along with coaches Julie Ann Jacobs and Angela Petersen, varsity team members from Ellinwood who participated were: Tawny Arndt, Hannah Billinger, Connor Birzer, Jenna Collins, and Rachel Schloctermeier. In addition, coaches and debaters from Great Bend, Larned, Lyons and Pratt High Schools were in attendance.
