HHS debaters medal

HOISINGTON — Hoisington High School debaters Montana Spires and Shannon Manka placed 8th and medaled recently at the Lyons Varsity Debate Tournament. They earned a 3-2 win record. Shannon was debating for only the second time in her life.

At the Sterling JV Debate Tournament, Erica Schwager and Jessica Starkey went 2-3, and Paxtin Carey and Breanna Baker went 1-4. Breanna and Jessica were debating for the first time ever, and Paxtin for only the second time. Tyler Base was the alternate.

In earlier action at a novice tournament in Great Bend, Taylor Crawford and Ashley Durr went 3-2 and placed 10th.

Hoisington is hosting a novice (first year) debate tournament, the Garrett Blase Memorial Debate Tournament, on Monday, Oct. 24. Schools planning to compete include Hays, Salina-Central, Salina-South, Valley Center, Hutchinson, Bucklin, Junction City, Larned, Sterling, Trinity (Hutchinson) and Pratt. Judge volunteers are encouraged to contact Mr. Oborny at the high school.
