HMS teacher nominated for Teacher of the Year
HOI KL TEACHER iRVIN

HOISINGTON — Hoisington Middle School teacher Tamera Irvin has been nominated for the "Kansas Teacher of the Year."

Irvin is a 5th grade math teacher at HMS.

"Tamera does an amazing job of preparing her students year after year for advancement to the 6th grade and state assessments," said Hoisington Middle School Principal Pat Reinhardt. "Her students continually and consistently make Standard of Excellence.

"Tamera teaches with rigor and accepts extra assigned duties with professionalism," said Reinhardt. "She does all the classroom duties such as attendance, lunch count, and hall duty, plus year after year, she understands the importance of after-school help for students who need extra instruction and support. She accepts this role and successfully advances all of her students. She does all classroom work and additional duties without the assistance of a classroom aide.

"Not only is she professional and caring in the classroom but also out of the classroom," continued Reinhardt. "She communicates with and has the respect of parents, staff & faculty and organizes our after school help program, 5th grade field trips, 5th grade state testing fun day, and our 5th grade DARE program. The 5th grade teacher team is one of the strongest in the state, in part because of Tamera’s leadership."
