Tyler Wright and Emma Wright, the children of Daniela and Wayne Wright of Hoisington, show the pictures they have taken for the Barton County 4-H Fair. If they see something interesting, they like to take a picture of it. Tyler took a picture of an antique fan. I like the old fan because it didnt have a cover and you have to keep your fingers away, Tyler said. Emma has a picture of her cousins socks, which dont match, and an aquarium in Oklahoma.

HOISINGTON — The Hoisington 4-H Jets have worked hard getting projects ready and learning new skills for the Barton County Fair on July 6-10. The group showed their work at the Hoisington Chamber of Commerce coffee on Thursday.

The students will exhibit photography, crafts, baking, scratch art, dog training, sewing, archery and drawing, among other projects. They have worked the whole year for the fair.

Michael McMahon, 12, Hoisington has been training his black Labrador/boxer named Dick since February. He is teaching him obedience and agility. "Agility is the most fun," said McMahon. The hardest part has been getting the lab to walk up the teeter totter.

He has owned the dog since birth.

The Jets will help out at the fair. Not only will they work to set up their own exhibits, they will spend at least 1/2 day there. When their work is done, they will help others. They will also spend 1/2 day tearing down.

The club has about 20 members participating. The members are involved in many community events such as cleaning up after Friday games, concessions at games, work in the community garden and will have a float in the Labor Day parade.

They are also selling tickets for the fair barbecue. The proceeds will support 4-H events.

"The kids work a lot of projects at home," said Carrie Bitter, asst. dog trainer superintendent. She said a lot of the work is done with parents. "We’re very involved," she said.

The 4-H Club offers dog obedience training classes in October and February as a fundraiser. The Jets hold dog classes for their members every week all year.
