HOISINGTON — The Hoisington Chamber of Commerce will holds its annual banquet beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 14 at the Knights of Columbus, 114 N. Main. The theme will be "There is no place like home."
The "Citizen of the Year" will be announced that evening. Nominations need to be in by Jan. 5.
The social time begins at 6:30 p.m. and dinner is at 7 p.m. Dinner is a choice of rib-eye steak or pork chops. Reservations are due by Jan. 10 along with the choice for the meal. The cost is $25 per person.
The guest speaker will be Marci Penner, director of the Kansas Sampler Foundation which is located on the Penner farm near Inman. Penner has degrees from the University of Kansas and the University of Wisconsin, and she spent five years in the Philadelphia area as an elementary guidance counselor before moving back to Kansas in 1990.
Penner has been instrumental in forming foundations to preserve and sustain rural culture.
She was co-chair for Governor Kathleen Seblius’ Rural Life Task Force and was named Distinguished Kansan of the Year in 2005.
