HOISINGTON —The Hoisington City Council, at its meeting on Monday, will move forward with creating an ordinance limiting the number of cats or dogs to a total of six in any combination in the city.

This is a change from the previous ordinance which allowed up to a total of eight. The ordinance also will reduce the rabies vaccination requirement from every two years to once a year.

Also approved was the Municipal Pound contract with Hoisington Veterinary Hospital.

The owners of the property located at 469 W. Second Street were present to meet with the council. The property had been deemed dangerous and ordered repaired beginning in 2008. No progress has been made. With the lapse in time, the council gave the owners 30 more days to show progress in the removal of a hazardous tree and vine overgrowth.

The city will negotiate a short term lease with an option to buy the property that houses the old wastewater treatment plant.

The board approved resolution 18-2011 which deemed the garage only at 223 E. 1st Street as dangerous and unfit for human use. If repair is not commenced by Jan. 4, 2012, the governing body will raze it.

In his report, City Manager Jonathan Mitchell said the old barber shop property located next to the new Kindscher Mule Barn will have to have the back wall removed and replaced with cinder blocks. The cost was cheaper than repair. In addition, the floors will need reinforced in a couple of places.

In final business, the council:

•Heard approximately half of the E-Community tax credits have been sold.

•Approved the contract with IBEW union.

•Took a tour of the electric and water plants to see the water softening equipment.
