Mardi Gras fundraiser to be held for Kans for Kids

Children of Barton County living with cancer will benefit from a new fundraiser hosted by Kans for Kids Fighting Cancer Foundation. The organization has announced that a Shrimp Boil will be held on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Hoisington Knights of Columbus Hall. The evening will kick off with a social hour from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. with live music provided by Tony Rubio and friends.

In a Mardi Gras celebration for adults, Lone Wolf Restaurant and Catering from Ellinwood will provide a shrimp boil complete with shrimp, sausage, onions, corn on the cob, and mushrooms. The meal will begin at 6:30 p.m.. Melinda Kurth, photographer, will be on hand to photograph those attending under the Mardi Gras arch. Eagle Radio’s own Kate Brennan will be the MC for the evening with T.R. Esfeld as the auctioneer.

The silent auction will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. A wide variety of items will be available for the silent auction. The live auction will begin at 7:30 p.m. and includes: a 40" flat screen TV; a five-month-old field-trained yellow lab puppy; a Browning Pump Shotgun; autographed jersey and photo from KU’s Tyrel Reed; a beautiful "Expect A Miracle" Santa handcrafted by Rochelle VanScyoc for this Kans for Kids event; a hand-made Kans for Kids quilt made by Anne Beck featuring hand-prints and names representing the 25 children of Kans for Kids; a rib dinner package for 16; a quarter of beef; several KU and KSU items; a Daniel Boone Green Mountain Grill; the flag poles at both the Great Bend and Hoisington City Buildings will be auctioned off, allowing the highest bidder the opportunity to fly their favorite team’s flag for one week below the American flag; and a three day stay at Breckinridge with a $100 gas allowance.

Tickets for the event are available at the First Kansas Banks in Claflin, Great Bend, and Hoisington; Farmers Bank in Great Bend and Wilson State Bank in Hoisington, or by contacting Randy Haddon in Ellinwood. Only 250 tickets will be sold for this event with a suggested donation of $25 per ticket (for the meal and two drinks).
