HOISINGTON — Skilled Parenting = Healthy Teens will be the theme of parenting classes taught by the psychology faculty of Fort Hays State University at 7 p.m. on March 6, 13, 27 and April 3. It will be held at the Hoisington Activity Center, 1200 Susank Rd.
Topics discussed will be how to communicate with a teenager; what’s going on in the teenage brain; parent’s guide to teen parties; general rules for disciplining teens; making discipline work; methods of punishment for teens; fair and reasonable limits for teens; preventing alcohol and other drug problems; developing a no use-rule and other consequences; monitoring, detecting and confronting; cell phones, right age to start; and managing your teens social network and cell phone.
The class will be taught by Leo Herrman, Ph.D, child psychologist; Betsy Leeds, school psychologist; and Daphnie Brown, clinical psychology student.
