School adds position

ELLINWOOD — Amy Metro has been rehired by Unified School District 355, Ellinwood, as a part-time kindergarten teacher beginning Feb. 1, the school board decided  at its regular meeting on Monday. She will work in the afternoon.

No action was taken on creating a policy to deal with cell phone usage for staff while driving school transportation. It was emphasized that transportation safety was to be promoted and that a culture of awareness with regard to safe driving habits needs to be established.

Sample Eagle logos were presented to the board. This is part of an initiative to settle on a permanent Eagle logo. Discussion centered around what factors should be considered in selecting a permanent logo and the importance of having all stakeholders involved in giving input.

A budget update was given. Discussion was held about potential cuts of $75 per pupil this year and $200-$300 per pupil next year from the state. Administration was very aware of what is occurring.

In other business:

• The contract of Superintendent Ben Jacobs was extended through the 2012-13.

• Nancy Jenisch was hired as a part-time library aide.

• Eagle Excellence Award winner for January was Rick Thomas, maintenance director.
