CONCORDIA — A group of students from Claflin High School toured the human cadaver lab and biology department at Cloud County Community College on April 28.
Faculty and students at the college offer these cadaver visits as a way to get high school students more interested in studying biology and other sciences in their post-secondary education. The students get a chance to meet and interact with college faculty and current CCCC students.
"I believe the visiting students appreciate the tour being informative but are more fascinated with the fact they have never been around cadavers before or had the opportunity for a hands-on learning experience," said Tyrone Hughbanks, CCCC instructor of biology.
CCCC is one of only a few community colleges in the nation to have a cadaver lab and offer a Human Body Dissection course. They also utilize the cadavers in the Human Anatomy course.
The first cadaver was used during the Fall 1998 semester as part of the Human Anatomy course. Years later, students are still learning about the human body by studying the cadavers.
