ELLINWOOD — The Ellinwood School District has named a new principal, Shawn Henderson, for the 2011-12 school year.

A new music teacher at EMS/HS was also named at the meeting. The teacher for the upcoming school year will be Meridith Duling.

The board discussed parking at the school during events such as basketball games. Superintendent Ben Jacobs informed the board that the school is looking at adding four to five more handicapped parking spots

Jacobs is getting handicapped parking signs made. He added that the school does not have enough parking overall, although there is no solution readily avaiable because the school is surrounded by houses.

Three Ellinwood patrons addressed the board regarding the non-renewal of Monte Doll as football coach, including two high school football players. They thought it was a mistake to let him go. The board thanked them for their input.

Jacobs reported that the school currently has enough snow days and is not required to make up any time.

The board approved the purchase of a 1999 55- passenger touring bus for $119,900 subject to mechanical inspection from NBS in Oklahoma.

Jacobs reported that the school received such a variety of bids for materials on the proposed bus garage, that they will let it out for rebid. By concensus, the board agreed to purchase land for the bus garage. Jacobs will look for suitable property.

Jacobs would like to have an engineering study done of the roof on the Old Gym. It has three layers of roofing material, and Jacobs would like to see if the roof is fundamentally sound. The board is also considering reroofing the Vo-Ag building. They will let the roof resurfacing out for rebid after the study.

In final business:

•The board is considering a permanent Eagle logo for the school.

•Administrative contracts were offered to administrators and directors, including Eric Sjogren, Mark McQuade, Susie Batchmann, Sharon Sturgis, Ryan Koetter and Rick Thomas.

•Parent-teacher conferences will be moved to March 17.
