HOISINGTON — After the April election, the Hoisington School Board had one open position. By a vote of 4-0, Don Fisher was voted in for the open position by the school board at its meeting this week. His term is a two-year term.

Leaving the board is President Mike Kaiser. Kaiser was on the school board for eight years.

The board approved a "no trading food" policy in the lunchroom at all schools because of the possibility of food allergies.

A cooperative agreement has been reached with USD 112 Central Plains for baseball and softball. Students from the Claflin attendance center will play with Hoisington. USD 112 will pay $2,050 to hire an assistant coach and $100 per athlete per year for two years. Lowry said that it is a win-win situation for both districts.

In other business, the board:

•Approved out-of-district request from Norma Krisinger.

•Approved the purchase of reading textbooks called Journey Reading Series for pre-k through fourth grade for $53,530.62 . The purchase of the textbooks will fit in the MTSS program implemented by the school.

•Approved the purchase of two on-demand water heaters and one 199 gallon storage tank. The price is for $13,533.69, and the bid is from A & F Enterprises. The on-demand water heaters are more efficient and use less energy. Superintendent Bill Lowry anticipated that it would take less than one year to make up the difference between a slightly higher purchase price and usage efficiency.

•Approved the purchase of carpeting from the Color Clinic for high school carpeting for $6,341.

•Approved the end-of-the-year meeting for final expenditures at 7 a.m. on June 29.

•During board member reports, Deb Stephens said she had been contacted about portion sizes for the high school lunch program and would like to see that issue looked into. Also, positive comments were received about holding 8th grade graduation at the high school auditorium.

•Approved hiring Dana Seybert as a teacher aide, and accepted the resignation of Bob Hoch as district custodian.

•Approved supplemental contracts.
