Barton Community College trustees will vote on renewing the college’s contract with KanREN for Internet service, when they meet at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Seminar Room, F-30 of the Fine Arts Building. The $50,0660 quote is on the agenda because trustees must approve purchases over $50,000.
KanREN, based in Lawrence, has provided Barton’s Internet connection for over 10 years. According to Charles Perkins, dean of information services, the company provides the Internet backbone for all regents’ colleges and five other community colleges in the state. Agenda materials note the college will increase its bandwidth from 20 Mbps to 30 Mbps to deal with increased Internet use by faculty, staff and students at the Barton County campus and Fort Riley area, which will increase the cost of service by $4,590 per year.
Other items on Thursday’s agenda include bow hunting at Camp Aldrich, approval of the Academic Quality Improvement Program document (related to accreditation), RN program changes and addition of the AAS in Technical Studies degree. Personnel includes hiring a security officer for campus and two employees for the Fort Riley area.
