The Barton County Sheriff’s Office reports stopping an alleged burglary and theft in progress at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
BCSO officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Patton Road, just southwest of Great Bend. Sheriff Brian Bellendir said an alert citizen had observed persons not known to him removing items from an oilfield pipe yard. That citizen was able to give officers a description of the vehicle, and it was located shortly thereafter at a metal recycling center in Great Bend.
Stolen items were discovered in the vehicle, Bellendir said. Sheriff’s officers arrested Greg Mylnar, 34, of Galatia, and Daniel Bartonek, 35, of Great Bend. Both were transported and booked at the Barton County jail on charges of theft and criminal trespass. Both were held in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
