Tuesday afternoon, preschoolers from Helping Hands Preschool walked to the Great Bend Public Library to visit Children’s Librarian Amanda Moran-Jones to hear stories about bubbles.  As a special treat, Amanda invited the kids to blow bubbles on the library lawn.
“Amanda visits our class every month to read stories, so we thought it would be fun to come visit her today,” said one of the preschool teachers.
Amanda mixed up homemade bubble mix in two wading pools, and provided a variety of bubble-making tools.  Among them, cut off cardboard tubes, flyswatters, and pipe cleaners bent into different shapes and sizes.
Some students went to work covering the pavement in front of the sculpture garden with sidewalk chalk art, also provided by the library.
Wednesday is the last day of school for Helping Hands Preschool.  It will also be the final day of school for Great Bend eighth graders, who will attend a recognition ceremony at the middle school at 7 p.m.  Middle School students competed in a Color Run Tuesday, among other end of the year activities.
All other USD 428 students will attend a full day of school on Thursday before they are released for the summer. But teachers saved the best day for last.  Thursday will be Fun Day for Eisenhower and Riley students, Field Day for Jefferson students, and Lincoln Elementary will hold sixth grade recognition at 1:30 p.m.  Park Elementary will hold Fun Day on Wednesday and will top off the school year with a talent show in the afternoon.
Teachers, of course, will have to wait until Friday to check out.
