If the old saying is true — “There’s no rest for the wicked and the righteous don’t need it” — it certainly applies to the Great Bend Fire Department.
Firefighters had no more than wrapped up their Fire Prevention Month activities when they began their next special project — getting set for their annual spaghetti feed, planned for 5-7 p.m. on Nov. 3 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 723 Main. Tickets cost $5 per person children five and under are free.

According to Capt. Jim Schmeidler, the event continues as an important local fund raiser.
He noted that the proceeds will be used to help fund an honor flight for local veterans, for the United Way programs and more.
The event is hosted by the Great Bend Fire Department Social and Charity Fund, just as it has been for many years, and it will, again this year, include a major drawing with more than 70 prizes, Schmeidler noted.
He said firefighters will be making the rounds in the next few days, selling both spaghetti tickets and chances for the drawing and the generosity of the community will continue to be shared with those important funds.
As has been the case in recent years, the feed will be set up again this year to accommodate those who want to dine in, or who want to carry out, the fire captain added. The menu will feature the department’s home made spaghetti with firefighter sauce, salad, garlic bread and desert.
