Fireworks topic of special meeting

The Great Bend City Council will hold a special meeting at 8 a.m. Friday in the city office building, 1209 Williams, to consider a request to shoot off fireworks in conjunction with the Jack Kilby Day celebration Saturday.
The request, made by the Jack Kilby Committee, includes the shooting of six three-inch salutes (a firework that only makes a loud bang) at 9 a.m., and six more at 10 p.m. They will be launched from the east edge of Great Bend.
City officials said these aren’t the typical, colorful “display” fireworks and this is not something meant for public viewing.
