Great Bend Fire Department and other area departments were kept busy Saturday night with two grass fires, GBFD Chief Mike Napolitano said.
At 8:16 p.m. Saturday, units responded to 20 SE 40 Ave. for a pasture fire that got into the trees. Ellinwood Fire Department was called to assist. Units were on the scene approximately for two hours.
At 9:45 p.m. Saturday, units responded to 750 NW 20 Road for a ditch fire. Because all brush units were committed to the fire on SE 40 Ave., Napolitano said the Albert Fire Department was requested to respond as well. The fire had extended into a field by the time firefighters arrived, but it was quickly knocked down, preventing it from spreading.
