A rural Hoisington man who collided with a deer while driving a motorcycle on the Cheyenne Bottoms blacktop last Friday was listed in critical condition Monday at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
George M. Goddard, 63, was transferred to the St. Francis campus of Via Christi Medical Center after being stabilized at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington.
Sheriff Brian Bellendir reports the accident occurred around 7:40 p.m. Friday in the 900 block of NE 100 Ave. Goddard was driving north on a 1998 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when the deer ran onto the road from an adjacent cornfield. The collision caused Goddard to lose control of the motorcycle, which slid approximately 165 feet.
Goddard, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to Clara Barton Hospital with head injuries and injuries to the lower extremities, Bellendir said.
Officers from the Barton County Sheriff’s Office were assisted by the Claflin Emergency Medical Service and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
