HOISINGTON — Engines will once again roar as adults try their hands at running a truck through the mud at the third annual Mud Run at 1 p.m. on June 2 in Hoisington in conjunction with the Kansas Mud Racing Organization. The cost is $5 with children 5 and under free. There will be concessions and a beer garden.
Proceeds will benefit the Hoisington Christmas Lights Fund and Hoisington Chamber of Commerce activities.
“It will be a fun and mud slinging event for the entire family,” said Stacey Bressler, director of HCoC.
The cost to participate is $25 and the registration closes at noon. New this year is no re-run options in any category. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded for the first four places.
In addition, $2500 has been added by sponsors to the cash payouts.
There will be two separate pits-one for ATV’s and the other for vehicles. The pits this year will be shorter and have less mud than last year.
The ATV events will be open to all ages.
All vehicles participating will be inspected and must have a hitching point. All participants will be required to wear helmets and use a seat belt. All drivers of the ATV’s must demonstrate that they can operate the machine in a safe manner.
And for those whose vehicles can’t make it through the mud, a group from Hoisington will be official pullers.
The KMRO holds races from May through Oct. 1. They will hold 18 events this year. Events are held in Kansas, Oklahoma or Colorado.
