Great Bend police were called to the scene of a three vehicle injury accident that occurred around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of 18th St. and Main St. in Great Bend. The Great Bend Fire Department was called to extract a passenger.  
According to Brian Boy, who saw the accident occur as he was exiting the Dillon’s store, a black Chevy Monte Carlo heading east on 18th Street crossed Main Street and was hit on the passenger side by a northbound Chevy Silverado pickup truck, and was subsequently pushed into a westbound Ford F-150 pickup truck that was waiting at the stop sign at that intersection.
The driver of the Ford F150, Rachelle Hillegeist, said it all happened very quickly.   
“All of a sudden, I saw them both coming,” she said. “I just closed my eyes and held on tight.”
She saw the driver of the Monte Carlo exit the vehicle, bleeding, and walk over to Blades Hair Salon on the southeast corner of the intersection. The passenger was unable to exit the vehicle. Paramedics and other fire personnel were called to the scene, and using the Jaws of Life, removed the passenger side door from the vehicle and then extracted the passenger. Both passenger and driver were transported by ambulance.
Falone Schwartz, the driver of the Chevy Silverado pickup truck, said she did not see where the car came from, and did not have time to stop when she saw it.
