High school artists from around the state will have a chance to experience the life of a professional artist when their work is featured and judged in the Shafer Art Gallery’s “Vortex High School Art Exhibit.”
The show will open Thursday, April 24 and will run through May 1 at the Gallery, located in the Fine Arts Building at Barton Community College.  
Shafer Art Gallery Director Dave Barnes said exhibiting the art of younger people creates a unique style and energy for the gallery.
“The Vortex Exhibit is great because it presents a very youthful and adventurous point of view,” Barnes said. “We really get to see young creative minds at work.”
In conjunction with the exhibit, students will attend “Vortex Day” on May 1 on the Barton County Campus. Students will participate in art workshops presented by Barton Art Professionals.  The day will culminate with an awards reception. Winners of three major awards will be given $500 scholarships from the Barton Foundation.  
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
