KBI seeks man suspected of cashing fake checks

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is asking the public  for assistance in locating Robert Helms. He is suspected of passing himself off as a law enforcement officer, including using a false badge, throughout the state of Kansas while cashing phony payroll checks and issuing bad checks to purchase items.
Information indicates Helms has recently been in western Kansas, including Scott City and Russell on Feb. 1. Authorities also believe he was in Lyons the night of Jan. 26. According to a statement from the KBI, Helms has targeted Alco and similar stores in smaller communities.
Helms is 45-years-old, 5’7” tall, 190 pounds with blue eyes.  He has short gray hair, is known to wear round glasses and looks older than his age.  He has recently been seen driving a maroon minivan, possibly a Chrysler or Dodge.
 Anyone who has any knowledge of Robert Helms’ whereabouts is asked to call their local law enforcement agency, 1-800-KS-Crime or 911.
