Longoria trial date set

The date for the jury trial for Adam Longoria, the Great Bend man charged in the August 2010 murder of 14-year-old Alicia DeBolt, has been set, it was announced Wednesday.
According to a filing made in Barton County District Court, the trial is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2012, in Great Bend. Ten days are being set aside for the proceedings.
Barton County District Judge Hannelore Kitts will preside.
Longoria is charged with capital, however the Kansas Attorney General’s Office, which is handling the prosecution, announced during a motion hearing it is not seeking the death penalty. He is still being defended by attorneys with the Death Penalty Defense Unit out of Wichita.
DeBolt was seen getting into a dark colored SUV at 11 p.m. on the night of Aug. 21, 2010, and a missing person report was filed Aug. 22. Her burned body was discovered on Aug. 23, 2010 by employees at the Venture Corporation asphalt plant near Dundee.
