City officials report that work is progressing at the city’s baseball complex on south McKinley and the work should be done soon.
City Administrator Howard Partington told the council Monday night that he and Mayor Mike Allison had toured the site recently and they saw a lot of progress. “It looks a lot different than it did just a few weeks ago,” the city administrator commented.
Councilman Mitch Haney said he had been told this week by a representative of C.V. Cale Construction that the concrete work would be done this week and that the rest of the contracting work would be done in about two weeks.
“It’s getting closer,” Partington agreed. “It looks really nice.”
Partington also provided an update on the work at the complex that took place in July: “Over the course of July, construction activities included completing the placement of retaining wall blocks and trench drain systems in the vicinity of the bleacher areas of the four ball fields, and pouring the concrete slabs for the bleachers to rest on.
“Installation of the aluminum bleachers and stairways to the press boxes at each of the four ball field.
“Placement of the concrete sidewalks and patio seating areas between the picnic portico areas and the bleacher awnings on the north and west wings of the complex interior.
“Installation of the public announcement system and the inspection of the mechanical electrical plumbing systems was completed by the design engineers to verify conformance to the contract documents.
“The metal roofing contractor continued to install decorative trim pieces on the awnings throughout the course of the month.”
Looks like a grand slam
