The investigation continued Monday into the death of a 25-year-old Great Bend man whose body was discovered by hunters Saturday morning.

Damon Galyardt’s body was found on SW 60 Road between 20 and 30 Ave., and the Barton County Sheriff’s Office was notified at 8:47 a.m. Saturday. According to the front page of the Kansas Standard Offense Report, a firearm was used and the case is being investigated as a first-degree murder. Officials do not believe there was gang involvement.

Sheriff Greg Armstrong said the charges could change as more information becomes available.

The body was found between the road and a row of trees on the north side of the road. The BCSO, Great Bend Police Department and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation are working together to investigate Galyardt’s death.

The offense report lists three items that were found at the scene: a "pink and blue blanket stained with (a) red substance," a Hallmark card, and a white and black Adidas left shoe. Armstrong said he couldn’t positively say the items are related to the case.

Officers were working on the case Monday and had no additional information to report.
