The deadline may be a month away, but those thinking about running for public office and want to be included in the August primary need file sooner rather than later, said Donna Zimmerman, Barton County clerk and election officer.
Democratic and Republican party candidates who wish to appear on the Aug. 7 ballot must file by noon June 1, 2012. Candidates for state and judicial offices file with the Secretary of State’s Office. Candidates for county, township and precinct committeemen and committeewomen file at the County Clerk’s Office.
“We still have about four weeks,” Zimmerman said. “But, they have to circulate a petition, they need to get started now.”
Candidates for the following offices will be nominated by each political party which has qualified to participate in the Primary Election:
• One Candidate for United States Representative - districts to be determined
• One Candidate for State Senate - districts to be determined
• One candidate for state representative - districts to be determined
• One candidate for member, state board of education - districts to be determined
• One candidate for district court judge, 20th District, Second District
• One candidate for district court judge, 20th District, Third District
• One candidate for county commissioner Second District
• One candidate for county commissioner Third District
• One candidate for county clerk
• One candidate for county treasurer
• One candidate for county register of deeds
• One candidate for county sheriff
• One candidate for county attorney
One Candidate for township trustee and township treasurer in each of the following townships:
Albion, Beaver, Buffalo, Cheyenne, Clarence, Cleveland, Comanche, Eureka, Fairview, Grant, Great Bend, North Homestead, South Homestead, Independent, Lakin, Liberty, Logan, Pawnee Rock, South Bend, Union, Walnut and Wheatland.
The following officers will be elected in each political party which has qualified to participate in the Primary Election:
• One precinct committeeman in each precinct
• One precinct committeewoman in each precinct
