This year is sixth the Great Bend Beautification Committee will offer those planning holiday parties ideas on how to decorate for the season, while at the same time, earning some money to improve the community.

The annual Holiday Tables Spectacular fund-raiser is set for 1:30 to 4 p.m. today at Rosewood Gallery, 1607 Main.

There will be 13 tables this year, decorated with different themes to give people suggestions for decorating their own tables for special occasions. The display will include tables of various sizes.

"This event not only provides seasonal decorating suggestions, but it also allows you to give back to the community ," said Judy Reed, committee member.

Money raised this year will be used to purchase a statue. "We thought Great Bend needed more statues," Reed said.

A location hasn’t been determined yet, but they are looking at possibly Veterans Memorial Park or Britt Spaugh Zoo. Because of the Wetlands and Wildlife Scenic Byway and other outdoor attractions in the area, the piece may feature a wetlands theme.

The Great Bend Beautification Committee is part of the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce.Past committee projects have included the Broadway Islands, self-watering flower pots for Main Street, painting and landscaping at the Great Bend Municipal Airport, work on the flower beds at the Great Bend Public Library and Veterans Memorial Park, thank-you cards sent to people with outstanding flower gardens and the regularly given Beautification Award that goes to l ocal businesses.
