The Cancer Center Kitchen Therapy monthly program has attracted some regular participants but newcomers also are encouraged to attend.
The next event is set for noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 15 in the St. Dominic Room at St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center. It is free and open to the public.
“This is a popular event and we want to encourage even more participation,” said Mark Mingenback, St. Rose director of business strategy and marketing. “We have learned that people want to be conscientious about what they eat and need just a little guidance.”
Even though the program is designed for those who are undergoing cancer treatments, anyone can benefit, Mingenback said, noting there are often samples available for tasting.
“Those who want to learn about organic foods or healthy eating in general will get a lot of good information at these monthly events,” he said. “At St. Rose, we emphasize wellness and preventive medicine, and a good diet is definitely part of that philosophy.”
Dieticians at the University of Kansas Medical Center present the programs by inter-active televideo (ITV). The Midwest Cancer Alliance (MCA) sponsors the events; St. Rose is a member of MCA, which is the outreach arm of The University of Kansas Cancer Center.
St. Rose is part of Centura Health.
