Traditions sometimes do come to an end, and so it is with the Great Bend Optimist Club Christmas Tree Lot, said club member Steve Kummer. For decades, except for the COVID years, the Optimist Club sold fresh cut Christmas trees as a fundraising project. This year the club has chosen to discontinue tree sales, said Kummer, who served as tree chairman for the club for years.
“Manpower and profitability have caused the Optimist Club to reconsider this venture,” Kummer said. “The club is grateful to the many families who have purchased fresh-cut trees year after year.
“Look for a new Great Bend Optimist Club fundraiser coming in the spring of 2023.”
The Great Bend Optimist Club is one of 3,000 Clubs worldwide, affiliated with Optimist International. The club motto is “Friend of Youth,” as all projects support the youth in the community. The club meets each Monday at noon (excluding major holidays) at the Walnut Bowl. Prospective members are always welcome to attend.
