LARNED — Public address announcer Jeff Broer likes to ad-lib during the annual Santa Fe Trail Days parade in Larned. Broer will get to practice his combination of quick wit and gift of gab during Saturday’s 11 a.m. parade in downtown Larned.
“It’s all in good fun, but I like to say something funny when certain groups, like a motorcycle group, drive by,” said Broer, who works at the Larned State Hospital. “I have a lot of fun with it. Anytime I’m invited, I accept.”
Announcing the Santa Fe Trail Days parade is only part of Broer’s talent. He also performs music and entertains during a Friday evening show at the Larned Community Center and Saturday downtown. Jim Long will play the harmonica and Broer will play the electric or acoustic guitar.
“We will also have game time, which is tremendous for audience participation,” he said. “I’ll have an open microphone set up for anyone who would like to record their own CD — a song, a story, a letter to Grandma and Grandpa, or a joke. This will be free of charge as a community service.”
