Commission approves emergency managers request

LARNED — The Pawnee County Commission met at 9 a.m. Oct. 14 for a regular meeting at the Pawnee County Courthouse. The following are approved minutes submitted by Pawnee County clerk Ruth Searight.
Pawnee County commissioners Donna Pelton; Kathy Bowman and John C. Haas, chair, were present.
• Commissioners approved and signed checks for payables.
• 9:10 a.m. — Ruth Searight, Pawnee County clerk, discussed mail and other county business. She discussed the Camp Pawnee flyer, and possible changes.
Searight informed commissioners the county assessed value is about $36,000 higher then the estimate in July.
9:30 a.m. — Mark Wagner, emergency management/zoning, discussed the communication tower for the Garfield Fire Department.   
Wagner requested approval to take the emergency management/zoning vehicle home.  Commissioners discussed the need for Wagner to be able to response immediately when needed. Commissioners gave Wagner approval to take the emergency management/zoning vehicle home.
Commissioners expressed the need for Wagner to take the Emergency Trailer on the road and keep it moving.
10 a.m. — Kurt Demel, Pawnee County highway administrator, presented a quote from Electrical Specialists, LLC, for emergency lights for the main building at Camp Pawnee of $2,632.
Demel discussed the need to have the roof repaired first, but Kworcc will not cover the building if the emergency lights are not repaired.
Demel discussed the cost for the roof repair of $7,500, and the other repairs that the building is needing. After discussion, approved passed to accept the quote for electrical from Electrical Specialist, and that the ceiling and roof be fixed, and to be paid out of Special Projects.
Demel informed commissioners that KDOT turned Pawnee County’s request to rebuild the 310 bridge.
Demel presented a price for the repeater.  Discussed the towers and monthly fees,  and the locations. North of Burdett is the worst location, and there are also bad spots south of Burdett. Demel suggested the Garfield Fire Department chief call Motorola to check the tower. Demel will also check with the Pawnee County sheriff to see if there was much improvement with the repeaters they added.
Demel gave updates on roads, and Pelton mentioned a sign that was down on S Road on 150, and Bowman informed Demel of a complaint regarding a  pothole by a stop sign, and Haas sign is gone on Y road.
Commissioners discussed Demel’s request for an additional repeater.  Commissioners approved a request to add an additional repeater, to be paid  from the 911 fund.
• Commissioners discussed personnel, and new hires.
• Commissioners discussed a bid Kirkham Michael submitted for a bridge.
11:25 a.m. — Commissioners discussed holiday schedule for 2014.  Approval passed on the 10 paid holidays for 2014, and gave a copy to the county clerk’s office.
• Commissioners read, corrected and approved minutes of Oct. 7, 2013.
11:45 a.m. — The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting was scheduled at 9 a.m. Oct. 21.
