LARNED — The Pawnee County Humane Society has scheduled two special events for Labor Day, Sept. 3.

The Pawnee County Humane Society’s will sponsor the 7th Annual Labor Day Dog Swim and the 2nd Annual Labor of Love 5k and 10k run.   

The run will take place at the shelter located at 1406 M5 Road, in Larned at the northeast corner of 8th Road and K-264). 

Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and races start at 7:30 a.m.  Registration forms are available at the shelter or go to our website www.pawneehumane.com.   

Early registration costs $20 ($25 day of race) and ends Monday. Medals will be awarded for top three places in each age bracket and all participants will receive a PCHS aluminum water bottle.

Later that evening, the Larned Swimming Pool is officially going to the dogs. 

For the 7th year in a row the pool will end its season with the popular Dog Days of Summer.

Dog Days officially kicks off at 5 p.m. Sept. 3 and ends at 8 p.m. The Larned Swimming Pool is located at Schnack Park in Larned. There is a $5 fee for each dog, but children and owners are free. 

For the safety of dogs and humans, participating dogs are required to have current vaccinations and must get along well with people and other pooches. Dogs should be on a leash when not in the pool.  

PCHS will also sponsor a hamburger and hot dog feed at the Larned Swimming Pool.  Everyone is invited for a day of family fun.
