LARNED — The Mountain family of Ellinwood dominated the triathlon by winning two age divisions at the Kiwanis Club’s 30th Annual Santa Fe Trail Run/Walk Wednesday.
Jade Mountain, 12, posted the fastest time for females (41.48) while winning the 12-and-under age division. Jade has qualified for the AAU National Junior Olympic 800 and 1,500 meters later this summer at Houston, Texas. Jade placed fifth in the Hy-Vee Ironkids Triathlon championship in 2011 at Des Moines, Iowa.
Jordan Davis Mountain, 11, won the 12-and-under male division (49.42) and placed ninth at the Hy-Vee Ironkids championship last year.
Isaac Mountain, 8, finished runner-up (51.31). Isaac captured the Hy-Vee Ironkids Triathlon 8-and-under championship in 2011 that required a 50-yard swim, a 500-yard run and two-mile bike ride.  Isaac has qualified for the AAU Junior Olympic 800 and 1,500 meters this summer at Houston.
Jordan Lee Mountain, 14, finished runner-up in the 13 to 19 age division (41.54). Jordan placed 33rd at Hy-Vee Ironkids Nationals last year.
Katherine Mountain said her children run track, swim and compete in triathlons during the summer.
The Larned triathlon, which featured a 100-yard swim, a two-mile run and 10K bicycle race, attracted 41 entries in multiple age categories. Runners and triathlon competitors enjoyed calm conditions Wednesday.
“The entrants like the uniqueness of the triathlon, which allows them to compete in an event that doesn’t require extensive training, because the distances are shorter than a regular triathlon,” said William Nusser, who helped coordinate the event. “It’s an event that has gained popularity over the years. It’s a doable triathlon for the entries. It was good weather and everyone enjoyed competing.”
Wyatt Beckman posted the fastest time (35.22) in the male triathlon while winning the 13 to 19 age division.
The Kiwanis Club’s 30th Annual Santa Fe Trail Run/Walk featured five races and eight age categories. The two-mile walk had 13 entries, the 10K run had 16 entries and the two-mile run featured 37 entries.
Medals were awarded for top three finishers in various age categories in men’s and women’s divisions.
Bryan Watkins posted the fastest male time (40.12) in the 10K. Emily Goetz had the fastest female 10K time (45.27).
Cory Stetler, Julia Graves and Tama Hansen were top finishers in the Two-Mile Walk.
Ness City track and cross county coach Patrick Younger posted the fastest time (10:26) in the two-mile. Younger was followed by Kevin Strawn (10:45), Chon Chavez (10:59). The women’s winner was Alex Lessard (16:18), who was followed by Nicole Dipman (16:21) and Brittany Butler (16:56).
