Quilting Bees convene
for monthly meeting

LARNED — President Colleen Wolf welcomed Quilting Bees members to the Sept. 21 meeting and workday at Larned’s Presbyterian Church.  
Several members attended Pat Knoechel’s presentation Sept. 13 in Great Bend and the guild bought the current book for the guild’s library.  
It was noted that Merlene Baird entered a quilt at the Kansas State Fair and that Janis Fairchild won the contest for a 12 ½ inch block featuring the 100th anniversary of the fair. Congratulations ladies.
Ann Hicks will chair a contest committee in March for a Jordaan Library fundraiser in honor of the library’s 100th anniversary.  The public is invited to submit an exact 12 ½ inch block with name and where they are from on the front of the block. The public may vote for the block during the month of March.  Flyers will soon be available giving further instructions.  For additional information call 285-1056.
Diann Morell demonstrated how to make an easy fleece cape. The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 with sewing to begin at 5 p.m.  Merlene Baird will show a DVD on “Thread Selection” with samples available.  The public is invited.
Show and Tell participants were  Diann Morell, “Buzz Saw” quilt in purples and white completed for the Welcome Inn, “Buffalo” quilt top, “Four-patch Posey” quilt using paisley as focus fabric; Melvina Prescott, child’s prayer quilt top made from fat quarters she won; Colleen Wolf, knitted blue scarf, quilted table runner with flowers of yellow and maroon, wallhanging with fabric of stenciled flowers, quilted tablerunner “Vintage Iris” in tan and purple;  Alice Clapsaddle, quilted “Maple Leaf” table runner from Civil War fabric, quilted “Coffee Pot” wallhanging; Karen Handley, “Braid in a Day” quilt and “Dog and Cat” quilt; Mary Weber, “Six Strip Wimsey” quilt and “Squares and Rectangles” quilt belonging to her sister.
