Larned Legion to play Sabetha
Class AA State Tournament

WATHENA — The Larned American Legion baseball team opens against Sabatha in the Class AA State Tournament at Wathena. Larned plays Sabetha at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.  
Larned (13-14) played the underog role to perfection last week, upsetting top-seeded Hays Monarchs 5-4 and second-seeded Russell 14-9 and 11-6 to capture the Zone 2 championship with a 4-0 record. Larned overcamer six-run deficits in both games against Russell.
The Larned ballgame will be aired on 103.9 KNZA-FM (mscsports.net) along with Doniphan County games throughout the  state tournament in Wathena. The broadcast is available on the Internet.
Sabetha captured the Zone 5 tournament and head into the State tournament with a 27-15 record. The Sabetha Raptors will be participating in the State tournament for the sixth time in the last eight years. The Raptors will face-off against Larned in the opening round, taking the diamond 30 minutes after the first game of the tournament which starts at 1 p.m. between Concordia and Silver Lake.
Doniphan County (22-9) in the host school after winning the Northeast Kansas League regular season and tournament. Doniphan County will open the tournament against Fort Scott in the opening round Wednesday in the second game of the night doubleheader, with the game starting 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Ottawa versus Ellis matchup at 6 p.m.
